In his most juvenile moment, the left was named Nikolas. The right: Anastasia. This was even better than living in Sin with the last.
Julean tends to be very quiet about the subject of the song, "Mountains of Anastasia". What is known, is that it references (and was written at) the "Flop House" of McClain, fuses anatomical subjects with historical allegory, and essentially is a letter to a recent ex about a new romantic partner.
This release of the "Mountains of Anastasia" recording was initially remastered at 491 Gallery Studios with producer 'Brotherman' in London, 2007 for the European release version of the album.
This version of the recording -- a set of recordings made during the same studio session for "Muse Tree", "Alexandria, Falling", and "Disconnect' in 2007 -- was released in "premaster" form as a physical item for European audiences during performances in Europe from 2008 to 2010. A more recent and mastered collection is available on the U.S. release, "Darlene" (2011), available here: juleanandtherai.bandcamp.com/album/darlene
Mountains of Anastasia
Lyrics From the LP "Darlene" (European Release: "Here.", 2008)
Lyrics and Music by Julean Rai
---
Verse I
Cry a mountain
Bleed a river, yeah
Swimming in my own illusions
...didn't claim to know you, now did I?
Verse II
Falling I should
Know by now, I should
Dream of you, when I
Dream of flying
...but these things fetter with twists of
Bridge I
Fate
Is my favorite word
And lately
It's my just reward
I pace the middle ground
A lot more, and
Here's my fiddlestick
Verse III
You said nothing
You believed them
Now, did I seem a
Little too clingy to you?
Oh, these things fetter with
Verse IV
Time
We're talking
Fourty days, and
Fourty nights, many
Fights to go I didn't
Think you'd be moving on
I feel like questioning things like
Bridge II
Fate
Is my favorite word
And lately
It's been my just dessert
I pace the middle ground
A lot more, and
Here's my fiddlest--
Chorus
Well, I need
Nothing to guide me
Here in these Mountains
of Anastasia
Reguarding your brother
The hand of your lover
Know he's still bleeding
After the War...
Bridge III
Fate
Is my favorite word
And lately
It's my just reward
I pace the middle ground
A lot more, and
Here's my fiddlest-
Chorus II
Hell, I need
Nothing to guide me
Here in these Mountains
of Anastasia
Reguarding your brother
The hand of your lover
Know he's still bleeding
After the War,
And now he's reluctant
Taking your promise
And now he's detaching
To even the scrore
And he is not Angry
Yes, he is Rasputin
Here in the safety
Of Her Four Walls...
Verse V
Oh, it takes a lot
Just to give a bit
Now do you think of me
When you think of putting on
Your favorite song?

Great production, vocals ... wonderful sparseness of lyrics and phrasing while keeping its brevity. The tone is movielike and pure, while the music itself is like gravity. Recommend. Julean and the Rai
